Space, Screws and Safety

June 19th – The Improv Lab – Queens Park Arts Centre.

It’s launch day for the big space mission, everything is being check and double checked by chief Engineer Albert and lead astronaut Michael and all seems to be find and functional, except, is screw 6985-52-B missing?

They should probably abort the mission and double check the rocket, but, it’s only 1 screw, and aborting and this late stage would be embarrassing and, more importantly, expensive quite the decision to be made……..

World 1 – The Reckless Rocket.

Albert decides that 1 screw can’t possibly make that much of a difference, but Michael isn’t happy, ultimately they reach a compromise, they won’t stop the launch, but this will now be a solo flight, and Michael’s INCREDIBLY ANNOYING co-pilot Fish (not his real name, but what he insists everyone calls him) will finally get that chance he’s always wanted to be in charge of his very own solo mission.

Unaware of anything that could possibly be wrong Fish launches, and sure enough, it turns out that screw 6985-52-B was crucial, first the rockets vears violently from side-to-side, the gasses start leaking into the cockpit, causing fish to burst out in hysterics, just as the final stage, a catastrophic explosion is about to occur, Fish hears the oddest of things, a knocking at the door of his spacecraft, it turns out he is secretly a member of an alien race known as the Glorbs, his compulsion to go to space was really a desire to return home, he is rescued by the glorbs and the craft is re-directed to their home world…..but is this the world out audience chose? Or was it…………….

World 2 – The safer path for Michael……is it?

If Albert won’t take the problem seriously then Michael will just have to fix the problem himself, he finds and re-fits the missing screw and then gets into the shuttle alongside Fish, his copilot.

The two of them take off, and although there’s a slight scare with the bolt coming loose, Michel is able to use his expert skills to re-tighten it, good job he always carries his lucky screwdriver with him.

As their flight continues Fish starts to feel slightly strange, he’s receiving telepathic communications from some outside, alien mind, telling him, he doesn’t belong with the humans, they aren’t his friends, Michael, isn’t his friend.

As Fish’s mind strts to give in to the influence of the Glorbs, maybe that screwdriver won’t be so lucky for Michael after all. But is this the world our audience chose!

The Screwdriver and the Stabbing. Glorbkind re-united!

Concentrating on the ships instruments Michael doesn’t see fish reach for the screwdriver, before he knows what’s happening he’s bleeding on the floor……..his body will make the perfect sacrifice for the feast of homecoming that Fish is about to attend!
